The Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra, established since 1984, provides both a
social network for professional and highly-skilled amateur musicians who live
in our Gold Coast City and an opportunity to play and perform high quality
orchestral music which challenge the musicians and entertain and educate the
Gold Coast community.
The Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra supports and promotes fellow Theatre
Alliance members and community groups on the Gold Coast by regularly joining
forces and inviting other groups to perform in the creatively themed concerts.
Recent collaborative performances have included New York Ballroom, Hinterland
Dance Academy, Gold Coast Antique Auto Club and the Academy of Design.
In 2011 the Orchestra performed at the Gold Coast Convention Centre as part of
the National Young Composers Project. The state winners of the project were
flown to the Gold Coast and their compositions were rehearsed and performed in a
world premiere by the Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra.
Our final concert for 2011 is "Strings Attached!" on Saturday 3, 7.30pm and
Sunday 4 December, 2.30pm at the Robina Community Centre. The concert features
the 2011 recipient of the Youth Concerto Performance Opportunity, Hayley Ko on
violin, the Queensland Theatre of Puppetry (QTOP) a fellow Theatre Alliance
member and a trombone Concerto by Anthony Simmonds as well as great orchestral
classics.
