JAVEENBAH THEATRE

2010 Playbill

Comedy/Farce
Who Goes Bare
12th March – 27th March Director: Dorothy Henderson

Running a Health and Strength Home in a large and somewhat decaying country mansion can be a hazardous undertaking at any time, as Eddie Manchip knows. When one is further beset by a sinister crook to whom one has signed away the deeds of the house in payment of a gambling debt; a complete desertion of the staff except for one half-witted and generally hysterically excited maid; an erring, pompous brother; his suspicious wife; a tennis-player in the nude; a quick change artist who appears as someone different every ten minutes or so; the tennis player's kilted Scottish husband and a hearty countrywoman grabbing second-hand clothing - then the result can be, in a word - chaos.

Australian Comedy
Zigzag Street
 Director: Amy-Louise Anderson
30 April to 15 May with a matinee on 9 May.
Zigzag Street is a funny and engaging adventure through six months in the life of the hapless Richard Derrington, a corporate lawyer whose girlfriend recently dumped, or as he says “trashed” him.In a pitiful attempt to rebuild his life he seems to make one rotten choice after another. Despite frequent attempt to get it together, his life remains “crap.” All of the characters in his life, his best mate, his boss, his doctor are determined to help him find his way clear of the chaos and only seem to make things worse for Richard. The arrival of the equally quirky, Rachel, brings something Richard never dreamed he’d have again: Hope!

Musical
Sweet Charity
9th July – 31st July Director/Choreographer: Kim Reynolds
Charity Valentine is the eternal optimist. While working at the seedy Fan-Dango ballroom, she is often taken advantage of and continually experiences bad relationships. Finally, she seems to have met a decent fellow in Oscar. Trying to hide her true profession, she lies to him and tells her that she works in a bank. Soon, Oscar asks Charity to marry him. Unfortunately, Oscar discovers Charity's real profession and backs out of the marriage. Nevertheless, Charity continues to remain hopeful that good things will happen in her life.

Original Comedy
Has Alice Frikkin a Ghost of a Chance?
17th September – 2nd October Director: Joan Stalker-Brown
Alice Frikkin haunts a deserted house that the Crapp family purchase. Alice, who at first does not remember her past, interacts with the Crapp family with hilarious results. Mary and Frank’s son Steve falls in love with Alice and it is through his determined efforts, along with articles found at the bottom of a well, that Alice remembers her traumatic past. With a range of quirky characters, this play is about how disparity transcends all barriers and how all kinds of people can find happiness with each other.

Musical Play
I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.
26th November – 11th December Director: Iain Hogg

Presented in the form of a series of vignettes connected by the central theme of love and relationships, this musical play's tagline is "Everything you have ever secretly thought about dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives and in-laws, but were afraid to admit. A first date, weddings, marriage and child rearing are all fair game in this ‘battle of the heterosexuals.’ This hilarious revue pays tribute to those who have loved and lost, those who have fallen on the face at the portal of romance and those who have dared to ask, “What are you doing on Saturday night?”
