July 2010
DINNER SHOW FEATURING COUNTRY MUSIC'S GREATEST HITS & SONGS THAT
FORGED OUR NATION
Following the huge success of Opera Pops 1 and 2 in recent years, the choir will
be presenting in July 2010, its third dinner show in the Paradise Showroom of
the Gold Coast Arts Centre. This will feature country music and heritage songs
of Queensland. These songs were specially selected and arranged in multi-part
harmony for the choir by its Director of Music Ruth Gurner, as a contribution to
Queensland's 150th birthday celebrations.
The show in July will showcase these songs with the choir members in period
costume and illustrated by small tableaux to give a greater enjoyment of the
music, and will feature the well-known country duo "Future Native".
November 2010
Handel's "MESSIAH"
This is one of those popular choral works that appeals to everyone. In the
run-up to the Christmas period, the choir will be giving its annual performances
of this wonderful work in a "sing-along" format. If you would like a chance of
singing this work, bring your music scores and sing-along with the choir.
Alternatively, just come along and let Handel's beautiful baroque music wash
over you.
December 2010
CHRISTMAS MUSIC
Through the Christmas period, the choir will be giving a number of concerts of
Christmas music at a number of venues on the coast.

Drama
Ruby Moon
29th January – 13th February Director: Jocelyn Moore-Carter
Ruby Moon is conspicuous in her absence. The only physical hints of her
existence are dolls.
These include the toy that disappeared with her, and the life-size mannequin that her parents display in the hope that someone will remember seeing her. Red robed Ruby has disappeared, waylaid by some unknown villain on the way to Grandma’s.
Ray
and Sylvie Moon repeatedly embark on a grand inquisition of their neighbours as
they try to piece together what happened.
Comedy/Farce
Who Goes Bare
12th March – 27th March Director: Dorothy Henderson
Running a Health and Strength Home in a large and somewhat decaying country
mansion can be a hazardous undertaking at any time, as Eddie Manchip knows. When
one is further beset by a sinister crook to whom one has signed away the deeds
of the house in payment of a gambling debt; a complete desertion of the staff
except for one half-witted and generally hysterically excited maid; an erring,
pompous brother; his suspicious wife; a tennis-player in the nude; a quick
change artist who appears as someone different every ten minutes or so; the
tennis player's kilted Scottish husband and a hearty countrywoman grabbing
second-hand clothing - then the result can be, in a word - chaos.
Australian Comedy
Zig Zag Street
7th May – 22nd May Director: Amy-Louise Anderson
Zigzag Street is a funny and engaging adventure through six months in the life
of the hapless Richard Derrington, a corporate lawyer whose girlfriend recently
dumped, or as he says “trashed” him.In a pitiful attempt to rebuild his life he
seems to make one rotten choice after another. Despite frequent attempt to get
it together, his life remains “crap.” All of the characters in his life, his
best mate, his boss, his doctor are determined to help him find his way clear of
the chaos and only seem to make things worse for Richard. The arrival of the
equally quirky, Rachel, brings something Richard never dreamed he’d have again:
Hope!
Musical
Sweet Charity
9th July – 31st July Director/Choreographer: Kim Reynolds
Charity Valentine is the eternal optimist. While working at the seedy Fan-Dango
ballroom, she is often taken advantage of and continually experiences bad
relationships. Finally, she seems to have met a decent fellow in Oscar. Trying
to hide her true profession, she lies to him and tells her that she works in a
bank. Soon, Oscar asks Charity to marry him. Unfortunately, Oscar discovers
Charity's real profession and backs out of the marriage. Nevertheless, Charity
continues to remain hopeful that good things will happen in her life.
Original Comedy
Has Alice Frikkin a Ghost of a Chance?
17th September – 2nd October Director: Joan Stalker-Brown
Alice Frikkin haunts a deserted house that the Crapp family purchase. Alice, who
at first does not remember her past, interacts with the Crapp family with
hilarious results. Mary and Frank’s son Steve falls in love with Alice and it is
through his determined efforts, along with articles found at the bottom of a
well, that Alice remembers her traumatic past. With a range of quirky
characters, this play is about how disparity transcends all barriers and how all
kinds of people can find happiness with each other.
Musical Play
I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.
26th November – 11th December Director: Iain Hogg
Presented in the form of a series of vignettes connected by the central theme of
love and relationships, this musical play's tagline is "Everything you have ever
secretly thought about dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives and
in-laws, but were afraid to admit. A first date, weddings, marriage and child
rearing are all fair game in this ‘battle of the heterosexuals.’ This hilarious
revue pays tribute to those who have loved and lost, those who have fallen on
the face at the portal of romance and those who have dared to ask, “What are you
doing on Saturday night?”
