THE APPLETON LADIES POTATO RACE
By Melanie Tate
Directed by Louise Haggerty
SYNOPSIS: A comedy-drama full of laughs, heartache and big questions is coming to Tamborine Mountain Little Theatre in March 2022. This is an engaging story of 5 diverse women set in a small Australian country town written with panache and wit by author Melanie Tait (ABC and Guardian journalist) and first premiered to acclaim in 2019 at Sydney’s Ensemble Theatre. What starts as a feel-good story with the return of local girl from success in the big city rapidly develops into a close look at how modern Australia views and deals with (or not) the big issues of sexual preference, gender politics and choices, immigration, racism and the relevance of women - all captured through the prism of the local Potato Race at the “Show” where the men’s race prize is $1000, and the women’s is $200. The lines are drawn - and nobody’s feelings are spared.

BU21
by Stuart Slade
Directed by Nathan Schulz
SYNOPSIS:
The Drama Merchant, by arrangement with ORiGiN™ theatrical, on behalf of Nick Hern Books presents Stuart Slade's acclaimed play BU21, as an intimate & staged event at Backdock Arts, limited to an audience of 40!
The macabre obsession we have, as general members of society, to the shock value, the scoop, the Big Bad Ugly is explored in this piece of verbatim theatre, staged in the form of an intimate mockumentary.
Comprised of six interlinking monologues, told by six twenty somethings, you’ll witness a support group getting together and opening up about their traumas after a terrorist attack in the heart of London. You’ll hear them talk about gruesome scenes as they shed their fears and pains & become raw and naked.
How does tragedy affect us? How do we cope? How does it change the path that we were on before? And how does that one moment of our lives dictate our behaviour, personality, views on life? All this is explored in this piece of verbatim theatre from the very near future.
By turns terrifying, inspiring, brutal, heartbreaking, and hilarious, why not join the session at Back Dock Arts

STEEL MAGNOLIAS Postponed to 2023
By Robert Harling
By arrangement with ORiGiN™ Theatrical on Behalf of Samuel French, and Concord Theatricals Company
Directed by Barry Gibson
SYNOPSIS: Local director Barry Gibson presents to us a heart-warming story of love, wit and a whole lot of soul with Robert Harling’s classic 1987 play. Set in the US state of Louisiana, certified beauty expert Truvy Jones owns and spends her time in her local salon with 5 friends, - M’Lynn Eatenton and her confident daughter Shelby, the strong yet ill-tempered neighbour Ousier, kind- hearted companion Clairee Belcher and local newcomer and apprentice Anelle Dupuy. We see these strong independent women over the course of three years, sharing stories, gossiping and discussing their personal struggles within their families and their small Southern community. The history of the piece dates back to the late 80’s yet still holds up for modern audiences. As this piece was a personal requiem for playwright Robert Harling’s sister, it is no doubt a tearjerker and a sentimental piece of work for those who hold family close to their hearts. Gibson uses the perfect mix of comedy and dramatic elements to make light of serious situations throughout and also uses sassy satire to his advantage to make the show enjoyable for all. This show will touch the hearts of anyone who finds joy in the little things in life and wants a show with both laughter and sincerity.
